Badges for G Suite Students

Types of Badges

Students can earn JoeZoo Skill Badges for the following five skills:
  1. Self-Editing
  2. Initiative
  3. Feedback Engagement
  4. Feedback Application
  5. Peer Feedback


Earning Badges

Students who would like to learn how to earn specific badges can use the following helpful tips below.

Self-Editing


The Self-Editing Badge is awarded for each writing error the student tries to correct after using the Student Monkey Checker.
  1. In your assignment on Google Docs, click open the “Add-ons” tab at the top
  2. Click on “JoeZoo Express” and then “Open JoeZoo Express”
  3. Click the “Monkey Checker” (brain icon) at the bottom of the add-on
  4. Click onto a comment item in your checklist (e.g. Comma Missing)
  5. Review feedback and fix your work
  6. Click “Remove” at the bottom of the add-on once it has been fixed

Initiative


The Initiative Badge is awarded when a student clicks and uses resources that have been added to voice and text comments.
  1. In your assignment on Google Docs, click open the “Add-ons” tab at the top
  2. Click on “JoeZoo Express” and then “Open JoeZoo Express”
  3. Click “Feedback” 
  4. Click onto a comment item in your checklist (e.g. Comma Missing) 
  5. If your peer or teacher provided an additional resource, click and review it
  6. Apply the feedback from the resource to your work

Feedback Engagement


The Feedback Engagement Badge is awarded for each voice or text comment a student opens to read or listen.
  1. In the assignment on Google Docs, click open the “Add-ons” tab at the top
  2. Click on “JoeZoo Express” and then “Open JoeZoo Express”
  3. Click “Feedback” at the bottom of the add-on
  4. Click a text comment item in your checklist (e.g. Missing Comma)
  5. Read or listen to the feedback Click onto “Voice Comment” in your checklist to listen to voice comments Click “Play” (round icon with white triangle) 

Feedback Application


The Feedback Application Badge is awarded when a student fully reads or listens to a voice and text comment and then makes an edit to their work to the part the comment highlighted.
  1. After reviewing voice and text comments
  2. Select the highlighted text and make the appropriate changes based on the comments
  3. Click “Remove” to remove the text or voice comment after editing your work

Peer Feedback 


The Peer Feedback Badge is awarded when a student reads or listens to a comment added by a classmate.
  1. In the assignment on Google Docs, click open the “Add-ons” tab at the top
  2. Click on “JoeZoo Express” and then “Open JoeZoo Express”
  3. Click “Feedback” at the bottom of the add-on
  4. Click a text comment item in your checklist (e.g. Missing Comma)
  5. Read or listen to the feedback 
  6. Click onto “Voice Comment” in your checklist to listen to voice comments
  7. Click “Play” (round icon with white triangle) 

Tracking Badges

JoeZoo Skill Badges are earned based on the five skills above, which means a student’s grade has no influence on the skills above. Once a student earns a badge, the badge will become coloured. If a badge has not been earned yet, it will remain grey. 


Students can find their skills progress report on their Class Dashboard on the JoeZoo web app using the detailed steps in this resource.
