Creating Assignments

Teachers must have an assignment created in Schoology before using the JoeZoo App to assess student work. To create assignments on Schoology, teachers can refer to this Schoology resource.

An assignment can contain either a scale (numeric or letter) or a point-based rubric. Once an assignment is created in Schoology, the assignment and the selected scale or rubric will sync to the JoeZoo App. To create rubrics on Schoology, teachers can refer to this Schoology resource.

Before teachers assess student assignments using the JoeZoo App, they can proceed to the Configuring Assignments section below.

Configuring Assignments

Before assessing an assignment using JoeZoo, teachers must configure the assignment they have created. Teachers will save time by configuring assignments before assessing student work because they can customize exactly what they want JoeZoo to track and assess automatically. As well, teachers can edit or add custom feedback comments to fit specific grade and subject expectations.

Teachers can access the Assignment Configuration page using the following steps:
  1. Scroll down to the Assignment List within the JoeZoo App Home Page
  2. Click the Configure Assignments icon (gears) to the far right of the assignment name
  3. If you are within a student's submission, click the Pencil icon under the Submission Insights
  4. Under the "Configure Assignment" menu on the left, click the component you'd like to configure

Teachers who change the assignment's scale or rubric after an assignment has been assessed in JoeZoo will have to re-assess any assignment that has been graded using the previous scale/rubric.

Sync Assignments

  2. Click the Update Data (refresh icon) button at the top right corner of the assignment list (see image below)

In the Assignment List section of the Home Page, teachers can expand each assignment to see students' individual updates. Teachers will be able to see whether a student has submitted an assignment, when an assignment was submitted, and when an assignment was graded.

Teachers can use the following steps to view a student's submission status:
  1. Scroll down to the Assignment List within the JoeZoo App Home Page
  2. Click the collapse icon (arrow pointing down) on the right in the assignment row
  3. Review the submission status to the immediate right of each student's name
